Martin Suchánek

* 13.7.1958

Martin Suchánek grew  up up together with his family in a Children Shelter Home in Ušovice near Mariánské Lázně where his mother worked as a director at that time. His father, a painter and graphic artist Vladimír Suchánek, definitely influenced his artistic wiev of the world.
Martin Suchánek profiled into an author of documentary films with the feeling of dramatics, and with the sense of visual exclusiveness and wonderful spectacle, not very common in our country. He often uses played sequences and his creative approach was surely influenced by his practical experience in advertising. His films are monumental by grand-scale generosity both of the content and form, reached by exhausting working effort of himself and, at the same time, of all his stuff co-workers. The genre of his work are essays or life storylines,  the topic of which concerns the world of classical music (except the representative and emotive film about the Municipal House in Prague called Secession/Art Nouveau Inspiration – from 1994): huge and respectable portraits of four Czech musicians contributing differently to world music heritage – Legend by the Name of Kubelík (1999), Antonín Dvořák – Deo Gratias (2001), Václav Talich – Self-confidence and Hubleness (2004), Ecce Homo – Bedřich Smetana (2004). The series was concluded by a middle-footage stylized documentary about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his visits to Prague called Adieu Mozart (2005), screenplay by Zdeněk Mahler, belonging to Suchánek´s most appreciated films (e.g. Grand Prix at Arts&Film Telč 2006, Commendation of Honour FITES 2006).
Suchánek goes on surprising not only the viewers, audience, but also the festival juries, by his professional approach. All his films (except the above mentioned Mozart) have been awarded a number of prizes.
Lately the author has devoted himself to photography.
