Jiří Anderle

Jiří Anderle attended the Academy of Creative Arts in Prague, where he studied painting under Professor A. Pelc and graphic art under Professor Silovský. He graduated in 1961. The experience which he gained during his co-operation with the Black Theatre of Jiří Srnec, with which he travelled through Europe for eight years as a mime appeared at a number of well-known theatres - he sees life and the world as a stage - Theatrum mundi - had a fundamental influence of his work.
He has exhibited his works at 93 solo and 200 group exhibitions (the most important: 1983 retrospective of prints and drawings National Museum, Stockholm, Sweden / 1996 National Gallery, Prague, Czech Republic / 1997 retrospective of paintings The Imperial Stables, Prague Castle, Praha, Czech Republic.
He has won 38 prizes at international biennials (among others the Ljubljana Grand Prix in 1981) and in 1982 and 1984 his works were exhibited in the Central Exposition of the Biennial di Venezia. He is represented in prestigious world collections and museums (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA The George Pompidou Centre, Paris, France, etc.)
